自己紹介(Biography in English)

Isao Yamada is a Professor with the Department of Information and Communications Engineering in the Institute of Science Tokyo  (formerly known as Tokyo Institute of  Technology).

His current research interests are in mathematical signal processing, nonlinear inverse problem, and optimization theory.

He received the B.E. degree in computer science from the University of Tsukuba in 1985 and the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical
and electronic engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1987 and 1990 respectively.

Dr. Yamada has been an Associate Editor for several journals, including the IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals of Electronics, Communications and Computer Sciences (2001–2005), the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems―Part I: Fundamental Theory and Applications (2006–2007), the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing (2008–2011) and the IEEE Transactions on Signal and Information Processing over Networks (2014–2018), He also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEICE Transactions on Fundamentals (2013-2015). Currently, he is serving as an editorial board member of the Sampling Theory, Signal Processing, and Data Analysis (Springer), the Signal, Image and Video Processing (Springer), the Numerical Functional Analysis and Optimization (Taylor and Francis) and the Multidimensional Systems and Signal Processing (Springer). He served as a steering committee member of IEICE Engineering Sciences Society, including the the Vice President (System and Signal Processing) in 2012. He also served as a member of the IEEE Signal Processing Theory and Methods Technical Committee (2009–2014). He has been the IEEE Fellow and the IEICE Fellow since 2015.

He received the MEXT Minister Award (Research Category) and the TELECOM System Technology Award in 2016, the 2014 IEEE Signal Processing Magazine Best Paper Award from the IEEE Signal Processing Society in 2015, the IEICE Excellent Paper Awards in 1991, 1995, 2006, 2009, 2014, 2022 and 2024, the IEICE Achievement Award in 2009, the ICF Research Award in 2004, the Docomo Mobile Science Award (Fundamental Science Division) in 2005, and the Fujino Prize in 2008. Thanks to a joint paper with Prof. Frank Deutsch, his Erdős number seems to be 3 !
